Definition: Simple Depression vs Clinical Depression

Simple depression is a normal reaction to things and situations that may or may not be predictable but is affecting the daily life in a negative way. Clinical depression is the severe depression.   •  Loss of interest to do anything productive.

  •  Agitation.
  • Feelings of worthlessness.

Simple depression has a short life span as it could only last for a few days. The person can easily get his usual self without any medical, though changes in one’s daily activities living (including eating habits) can be of great help.

Clinical depression has a longer effect as it could last for months. What even more painful is that it requires medical treatment. Among those people who should experience medical cure are the following:

  •  Psychotherapy. Carried out by a specialist on mental health care, psychotherapy aims in assisting depressed individuals so that they could cope with their depression on a constructive (not destructive) manner. The psychotherapist helps individuals learn in setting and reaching their goals.
  •  Medications. Medications, specifically anti-depressants or mood lifters, recommended to individuals that suffer from depression. These drugs needs prescription and cannot be bought over-the-counter. They have to be taken for months for one so that they could appreciate their positive effects. Negative drug responses that include weight gain and loss of libido have been stated.
  • An Electroconvulsive therapyy. Now this may appear like an extreme procedure, and it can be! Electroconvulsive therapy involves the application of electrodes delivering a current to your brain. The effect can be compared to those people experiencing seizure. However, while it may be effective to manage some symptoms of depression, it can activate memory loss.
  • Vitamins. There seems to be a link between low levels of Vitamins D, B12 and Folic Acid and depression, and so adding some supplement to the diet in reducing the symptoms of depression.
  •  Omega-3 Fatty Acids. These vital fatty acids are especially beneficial in brain development and function. Making sure you have enough of these fatty acids in your system goes a long way to prevent and treat depression symptoms.
  •  Natural Remedies. St. John’s Wort and Kava-Kava are two herbal remedies that are helpful in discouraging depression.
